Jan. 1--Total turnover on the Stock Exchange of Thailand was five trillion baht in 2004, up 7 percent from the previous year.

The SET index ended the year down 14 percent from the previous year, with total market capitalisation of 4.5 trillion baht, down 6.11 percent from 2003, and a market price-to-earnings ratio of 9.34 times. The index closed on Dec 29 at 664.46 points, and traded between a high of 794.01 on Jan 12 and a low of 581.61 on May 17.

Daily turnover on the SET averaged 20 billion baht in 2004, an increase of 8.66 percent from the previous year. Foreign investors were net buyers of 4.18 billion baht worth of securities in 2004.
