Jan. 1--Ever since the 1997 crisis, a wave of entrepreneurship has been building throughout the country, as seasoned executives and new graduates alike see the advantage of being one's own boss.

The Thai Rak Thai government has been a particularly strong supporter of small and medium-sized enterprises under its broader policy to strengthen rural communities and the domestic economy.

Yet according to the SME Promotion Office, only one-third of new entrepreneurs can expect to survive after three years of operations. In many cases, budding companies fail to adjust a key marketing 'P' -- price, product, promotion or packaging -- and suffer losses in the marketplace.

Still, any new business must start with an idea. Here are some for 2005.
