Tsunami Toll At 150,000 As Aid Arrives

1Dec. 26's 9.0 magnitude quake struck near Sumatra, sending walls of water racing across the Indian Ocean and wiping out coasts in 11 nations. The U.S. boosted its aid pledge to $350 mil Friday from $35 mil. Secretary of State Colin Powell will inspect the devastation. A U.N. official said the death toll may be approaching 150,000.

2Online sales from Nov. 1-Dec. 26 rose 29% from a year ago to hit $15.8 bil, topping research firm comScore Networks' forecast of a 26% rise. Gift certificates pushed Dec. 20-26 e-commerce sales to $1.22 bil, up 53%. The fast-growing market is only a fraction of overall holiday shopping, which rose an estimated 4.5% to $219.9 bil.

Oil Bounces After Big Drop

3Feb. oil futures jumped $1.87 to $43.64 a barrel Wednesday after two blasts in Saudi Arabia reminded traders of terror risks to OPEC's No. 1 producer. Oil started the week by falling $2.86 to $41.32, the lowest since Dec. 10. Forecasts called for mild temperatures over the next 2 weeks in the eastern half of the U.S. Crude closed the week at $43.45, down 73 cents.
