Oil ends year ahead, but off peak
Oil futures finished '04 at $43.45 a barrel, 34% higher than a year ago but well short of the all-time high of $55.67 it notched in late Oct. New York markets were closed Friday. After climbing for much of the year amid concerns about inventories and terror, prices have eased in recent weeks amid signs of a mild winter and growing U.S. oil stockpiles.
