"It has become a tradition for Xfm to present up-and-coming bands at our annual Christmas party as tips for the following year. Two years ago, a little known band called The Darkness opened the show and last year Franz Ferdinand were first on. This year we're presenting our Black Christmas with live performances from The Black Velvets and Nine Black Alps, two bands we feel could become significant acts in 2005. Liverpool's Black Velvets are astonishingly accomplished foot-on-the-monitor rockers, complete with a harmonising drummer, while Manchester's Nine Black Alps display songwriting assurance beyond their years, combining effortless hooks with a dark edge reminiscent of Nirvana."
