Dec. 23--Jack Jackson's timing couldn't have been better.

Jackson, a Winston-Salem resident, was shopping for a Dell desktop computer at Hanes Mall late yesterday, hoping to buy a new computer system before the sale ran out, he said. After much deliberating, he decided on the company's Dimension 3000 system.

Jackson was one of a handful of shoppers browsing through Dell Inc's kiosk, searching through the company's catalog and looking for bargains.

The company -- the world's largest maker of personal computers -- announced plans to build a manufacturing plant in Alliance Park next year, which could eventually bring …
