It's the holidays. After a hectic few weeks of school, your kids are off until early January.

You've got family to visit, functions to attend and you want to keep your kids sharp so they will be ready when they return to school. One thing to keep in mind - relax.

"In the typical family, the routines of school and work and the holidays make everyone overdue for 'family time,' " said Conway Saylor, psychology professor at The Citadel.

Families need to find a balance between constructive activities that will get things organized and ready for a fresh start and finding time to relax, she said.
