For the fifth year in a row, an Audi R8 won the Sebring 12 Hour, the season-opener and marquee event of the American Le Mans Series. The four previous years the race had been won by Joest Racing, but this time the victory went to Audi Sport U.K., with Allan McNish, Frank Biela and Pierre Kaffer. From there the Champion Racing Audi of JJ Lehto and Marc Werner took over, running the table with six wins in the remaining seven races to take driver and team titles in the LMP1 category.
