The Summerville High School Marching Band Competition Performance Ensemble was named 5A State Marching Champions on Nov. 6. The band's show was titled "Faces: Elements of Expression." The band is directed by Leslie Gilreath and Sue Alexander. They are assisted by Susan Bocook and Sarah Mixon.

The band already has been named 5A Lower State Champions. The SHS Marching Band last won the 5A State Championship in 1988.

This has been a successful year for the SHS Marching Band. On Oct. 30, the band made a clean sweep at the West Oak Warrior Pride Classic Marching Competition. It won Best Horn Line, Best Drum Major, Best Drum Line, Best Colorguard and first place in…
