Audi's Q7 sport/utility vehicle, spied 10 months before its September 2005 Frankfurt motor show debut, aims for more adept on-road qualities than rugged ability in the rough stuff.
The Q7, which replaces Audi's allroad in late 2005, is based on modified underpinnings from the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne. However, Audi will shed much of the Touareg's hard-core four-wheel-drive bits, including its low-range gearing and locking differentials, to reduce weight and costs.
