Dec. 15--Pepsi Direct, a business unit of The Pepsi Bottling Group Inc., wants to hire 150 customer-service and sales representatives in Winston-Salem in 2005, a company official said yesterday.

The unit wants to hire half of that total in the first quarter, said Fran O'Rourke, the vice president of Pepsi Direct.

O'Rourke said that the company needs to hire more people because of the growth in the company's business and in the number of its customers across the United States.

He declined to disclose the average salary for those who are hired. He did say that Pepsi Bottling offers competitive pay and benefits.
