JupiterResearch, a division of Jupitermedia Corporation, has released findings of its latest survey on digital and online music, "Consumer Survey Report: Music, 2004." Based on an online survey of more than 2,300 adults, and also comparing results with an online survey of more than 2,100 teens, ages 13-17, the report predicts that subscription services will eventually outpace a la carte music downloads and that CDs won't be replaced by digital music in the next five years. The report further states that by 2009, digital music sales will represent just 12 percent of consumer music spending.
According to the report, the majority of online adults, 51 percent, think physical music is more valuable than digital. "CDs offer higher sound fidelity, aren't burdened with awkward copy protection and are compatible with pretty much every way people listen to music," said JupiterResearch vice president and senior analyst David Card.
