An extraordinary amount of brainpower has been expended in the quest to make acoustic guitars sound natural in sound-reinforcement environments. Simply placing a decent microphone in front of the instrument might appear to be the most obvious solution, but unless a performer is willing and able to remain directly in front of the mic throughout their entire set, or they are adept at "working" the mic, the sound will change unpredictably whenever they shift position.
