Dec. 6--The mobile phone operator DTAC is shifting its subscriber-acquisition strategy by focusing on reducing its churn rate -- defections of existing customers to rival companies -- in order to avoid expected heavy competition for first-time users in provincial markets next year.
The emerging provincial first-time user market is expected to help lift the country's mobile phone penetration rate to 50 percent next year, with four million to five million prospective new subscribers, three million in rural areas alone, said Sigve Brekke, co-chief executive officer of DTAC.
