Dec. 6--A father's ingenuity and an attempt to relieve the pain suffered by his son, who was crippled at 15 months after contracting rheumatoid arthritis, led to the invention of the Jacuzzi, a product that is now common in luxury bathrooms worldwide.
Remo Jacuzzi, the nephew of Candido Jacuzzi, the inventor of the hydromassage bath, said his uncle earned a patent for the portable hydromassage unit after developing the device on which his son depended on for treatment to ease his discomfort in the hospital.
Later, he decided to make the product available for home use in the early 1940s.
