Dec. 6--The National Innovation Agency (NIA) has approached German industrial giant BASF about forming a US$110-million (4.3 billion baht) joint venture to produce biodegradable polymers based on agricultural crops such as cassava or sugarcane, said NIA director Supachai Lorlowhakarn.
The two entities are now in negotiations about the terms and conditions of the joint venture.
Mr Supachai said that biodegradable polymers or polyhydroxyalcanoates (PHA) could be used in a wide range of industries, including packaging, electronics, construction, automotive and other durables.
