Building supplies firm plans to expand Granville County, N.C., plant.

Dec. 7--A national building supplies company will invest more than $50 million to expand its shingle-manufacturing plant in Granville County, creating 55 jobs over the next three years.

CertainTeed, a Valley Forge, Pa.-based company, said the new jobs will be manufacturing and assembly positions and pay an average weekly salary of $670, roughly $35,000 annually.

The company will receive a $300,000 grant from an economic development fund administered by Gov. Mike Easley to help pay for the project, which will include a new 65,000-square-foot production wing to be completed in 2007.
