Dec. 7--Twenty-six years after its roof shingles manufacturing plant opened in Oxford, CertainTeed Corp. is moving ahead with a $50 million expansion that will bring 55 new jobs to the company's Granville County site.

CertainTeed and Gov. Mike Easley announced the expansion Monday at the company's local plant, where the Valley Forge, Pa.-based firm makes commercial and residential shingles and employs more than 200 workers.

The expansion not only adds 55 jobs over the next three years, but it also signals that the 100-year-old company is putting down roots in Oxford, said Leon Turner, executive director of the Granville Economic Development Commission.…
