Prescription drugs taken by 44%
The popularity of anti-depressants and cholesterol-reducing drugs helped push the portion of Americans who had taken at least 1 prescription drug in the prior month to 44% in '99-'00, found a survey by the Health Department, up from 39% in the '88-'94 period. One in 6 adults took 3 or more drugs in the most recent survey, up from 1 in 10 in the late '80s.
