Steel demand bolsters Quanex
The industrial products maker earned $1.17 a share ex items in Q4, 46.2% more than the year-ago profit and 7 cents over views. Quanex's sales rose 72% to $432 mil, helped by the vehicular products segment, which benefited from strong demand for heavy duty trucks. Shares fell 0.5% to 58.87.
** U.S. Steel dropped 4.5% to 49.95 after Prudential downgraded it to underweight from neutral because of risks ranging from a stronger dollar to rising imports. Other steel makers also slumped, with Nucor down 4% to 50.33 and Steel Dynamics falling 8% to 37.01.
