Nov. 26--Currency volatility, oil price mood swings and violence in the southern provinces are key risk factors that, without care, could lead to a new economic crisis within the next five years, according to Ammar Siamwalla, honorary economist with the Thailand Development Research Institute.
He said the US dollar was set to weaken steadily, affecting exporters and increasing the importance of risk management and hedging against currency risk.
The government needed to take stronger steps to bolster the country's economic fundamentals to cope with unforeseen future events, Dr Ammar said at a seminar held yesterday by the Thai Chamber of Commerce.
