Fresh from the crate
Mopar showed off three new or significantly improved Hemi crate engines at SEMA: a 5.7-liter 360-hp model; a 540-cid aluminum V8 in carbureted, blown or show-polished form making from 650 to more than 900 hp depending on configuration; and all-new versions of the classic 528-, 472- and 426-cid Hemi crate engines first brought to market in 1991. All are delivered fully assembled and waiting for you to put them into something fast-or something soon to be fast (check out the Hemi Jeeps in our SEMA coverage). See mopar.com.
For the four-cylinder crowd, Mopar also introduced the SRT Stage 3 Turbo Upgrade Kit, which makes 310 hp.
Trabant travails
That Brit we told you about with the world's largest collection of East German Trabants (AW, Sept. 13) must liquidate or else. Graham Goodall was fined the equivalent of $1,380 plus $460 in costs and must get rid of 40 of his 49-car Trabant collection-deemed an eyesore by the nearby national park district-by March 2005.
Goodall says if anyone anywhere in the world wants to give a good home to a Trabant, contact him at (tel.) 44 1629 636511 or trabantmeister@onetel.net.uk.
