University of New Mexico Athletics Director Rudy Davalos has said he will establish guidelines governing the use of team chaplains.

When he does, he could look to the Albuquerque Police Department for a model.

Steven Voris, the Police Department's chaplain commander, oversees 26 volunteer chaplains who provide comfort and spiritual counsel to the next of kin in fatality cases. He's well-versed in the legal and ethical land mines that exist for ordained clergy who work for public institutions.
