The Hummer brand continues to evolve with this new H3 model, based on the Colorado pickup, and with news that the venerable H1 will get a new diesel engine and a handful of other refinements.
The H3 debuted at the California Auto Show in Anaheim, with underpinnings that started from a Colorado pickup. Only the middle section of the H3's frame is shared with the Colorado; the rest is welded and stamped into tighter, tougher rigidity, with two extra crossmembers and loads of optional underbody skid plating. The body is all Hummer, with an upright windshield, thick pillars, seven-slot grille, meaty wheel arches and squared-off corners. "H3 is in the Hummer family, but it doesn't have to be like mom and dad,'' said Holt Ware, who penned the exterior.
The interior is all smoothly integrated functionality, with less Hummerness to it.
