Supercar rubber

In time to upgrade that tuner supercar on your wish list come ContiSportContact 2 Vmax tires, which Continental Tire executives say are the world's first road tires approved for speeds up to 220 mph.

Vmax, based on the ContiSportContact 2, incorporates additional tread grooves to assist in tire cooling at high speeds, and to provide better wet road grip. The 19-inch ZR-rated tires come in four sizes: 245/35, 275/30, 235/35 and 315/25.

Have you heard the one about the Porsche gasoline-electric hybrid? Before you dismiss the idea as gossip, consider the possibilities of a hybrid version of the Cayenne sport/utility vehicle. So reports our sister paper Automotive News, in a story citing a source in Stuttgart. That source says the German automaker is studying the possibility of offering an alternative drivetrain based on the 270-hp Toyota-developed hybrid system in the Lexus RX 400h that goes on sale in early 2005 in the United States.
