After an article on Thursday in the Wall Street Journal suggested that Marsh will have to settle with Spitzer for at least USD 500m, there was a quick denial from the New York Attorney General who said that negotiations with the company had just begun and no settlement value had yet been discussed.

Eliot Spitzer did say that the next move might be to pursue insurers. The Wall Street Journal also hinted that total payments could reach over USD 1bn if Marsh has to make payments to resolve related class action suits and other private litigation.
