Nov. 4--Thai shares gained 1.47 percent yesterday in a volatile session as investors cautiously welcomed the prospect of a second term for US President George W. Bush.
Activity picked up in afternoon trade as election returns tilted toward a narrow victory for Mr Bush over challenger Sen John Kerry, although uncertainty remained over the final vote tally in several crucial US states.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand index closed at 641.29 points, up 9.3, on trade worth 17.1 billion baht. Energy stocks gained 1.83 percent, communications stocks rose 4.26 percent and property was up 0.44 percent.
