Nov. 4--The Federation of Thai Printing Industries has called on the government to temporarily eliminate the 5 percent to 7.5 percent duty on all types of imported paper to help alleviate an acute shortage, said chairman Kriengkrai Thiennukul.

"We expect that the situation will become worse early next year when the demand for paper will increase significantly thanks to the February general election and the start of the new school term," he said.

Mr Kriengkrai, along with other federation executives, asked Industry Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal for help in overcoming the paper shortage and a severe spike in prices.
