EchoStar's relationship with phone company SBC Communications is showing strains.
SBC invested $500 million in EchoStar last year. In early 2004, SBC began reselling EchoStar's pay-TV service in areas where SBC provides local phone services.
Over the last six months, SBC has signed up about 205,000 customers to EchoStar's service.
EchoStar reports third quarter earnings Nov. 9.
Many analysts are hoping Ergen will clarify the status of the EchoStar-SBC relationship during the earnings call.
Some Wall Street analysts are concerned about SBC's plans to offer its own video services via fiber-optic wiring.
