Archer Daniels reaps Q1 windfall
Archer Daniels Midland earned 41 cents a share in Q1, 78% and 14 cents over views. Revenue rose 13% to $8.97 bil. Record North American harvests and lower prices for grain and oil seeds offset lower income from the agricultural processor's private equity fund and a profit decline in its corn-processing business. Shares jumped 9% to 19.37, a 7-year high.

U.S. Shipping cruises on 1st day
The operator of barges for transporting refined oil climbed 5% on its debut to 23.25. U.S. Shipping had raised $133.5 mil, which it plans to use to repay debt and for working capital. Mechel Steel Group, the 1st Russian IPO since '02, fell 2% to 20.50. The Russian metals and mining firm had raised $291.9 mil.
