ADDISON, Texas _ Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the top military adviser to President Bush, opened the floor for questions from the audience at Friday's luncheon of the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce.

An arm shot up from the side of the ballroom. It was a reporter. "General, would you please clear up for us ..." the reporter started. Myers interrupted.

"I'm not going to answer any questions that have been in the headlines or an issue in the campaign," Myers said. "I know where you're going with that, and I can't be helpful with that question."

The question left unanswered …
