2004 NOV 4 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The San Diego Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation announced Laurinda Nikkel as the honorary survivor chair and her husband, Arne Knudsen, as the honorary co-survivor chair for the 2004 Komen San Diego Race for the Cure.
This appointment recognizes Laurinda and Arne's commitment to teamwork in the ongoing fight against breast cancer, and their support for the Komen Foundation and San Diego Race for the Cure.
Laurinda Nikkel, a San Diego resident and adjunct professor of voice at San Diego State University, was singing a role in an opera performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, when she first noticed a lump on her breast. According to the results of a mammogram and sonogram, she was diagnosed with fibrocystic breast disease, a common, benign change in the breast's tissue that is frequently found in women between the ages of 30 and 50.
