2004 NOV 3 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The loss of vaccine from Chiron Corp. has created a challenging situation for the United States vaccine supply going into this year's influenza season. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is working with manufacturers, distributors, state and local health officials to assess the supply and to coordinate getting the vaccine to those who need it most.
On October 5, 2004, CDC was notified by Chiron Corp. that none of its influenza vaccine (Fluvirin) would be available for distribution in the United States for the 2004-05 influenza season. This action will reduce by approximately one half the expected supply of trivalent inactivated vaccine (flu shot) available in the United States for the 2004-05 influenza season.
