Don't Take "Nothing" for an Answer
Why would a woman say nothing's wrong when clearly something is? "She might feel that if you were tuned into her, you'd know what was up," says psychotherapist Carolyn Bushong, author of Bring Back the Man You Fell in Love With. But hey, you're not a mind reader! To get at what's bugging her, you can ask broad questions, like "Did something happen at work?" or "Are your friends being weird?" Even (gulp) "Did I do something?" Then you've covered all of your bases.
But if she still won't spill, get specific. Say "You're barely talking and yon look as though you're about to burst into tears. Are you sure you don't want to tell me what's up?" That'll make it tough for her to play the "I'm fine" game.
Feel for Her
