Oct. 29--Dendreon has been working for a dozen years to dramatically change the treatment of prostate cancer by creating a life-extending therapy with mild side effects. Yesterday, the company rolled out the strongest ammunition yet to show it could become reality.
The small Seattle biotech company said its cancer vaccine, Provenge, was able to significantly extend lives across a study group of 127 terminal prostate-cancer patients, after three years of follow-up examination. The company's stock leapt 24 percent after the news to close at $9.85.
Dendreon did not release full statistical details from the clinical trial, choosing to save them for a prestigious peer-reviewed medical journal and to make waves at a medical meeting.
