Oct. 28--Next door to a Gucci store in Orange County's chic South Coast Plaza shopping center, Sony Walkmans sit on pedestals, high-definition televisions play Sony's latest DVD releases and digital cameras fill display cases near sofas and a faux fireplace.
This Sony Style store -- complete with a concierge -- highlights an effort by San Diego-based Sony Electronics to restore luster to its electronics business. Sony has been quietly expanding its retail footprint in the United States this year. It opened its 10th store last week in The Forum Shops in Caesars Place in Las Vegas. Other recent additions include stores in Beverly Hills, Denver, Dallas and Boston. The South Coast Plaza outlet opened last fall. In the next two years, Sony plans to have 30 boutique Sony Style stores. It hopes to open an outlet in Fashion Valley in March, company officials said.
