Growth rate slows for national furniture sales.

Oct. 27--Consumer demand for home furnishings rose for the 15th consecutive month in August, but at a much slower pace than in recent months, according to a monthly survey of manufacturers released yesterday.

The value of new furniture orders increased by 4 percent to $2.1 billion in August when compared with August 2003, reported BDO Seidman LLP, a financial-services company in High Point.

After benefiting from double-digit increases in new orders during the first half of 2004, the pace of growth for manufacturers has declined for three consecutive months.
