Section: Economy - Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said that a government decision to free gasoline prices will have only a limited impact on the country's economy, although it will still be necessary to set diesel prices.

"We need to maintain the diesel price until the economy is strong enough before we let the price be moved by market mechanisms," Thaksin told reporters.

On Wednesday, the government raised the subsidised price of gasoline 0.60 baht a liter, but Thai Energy Minister Prommin Lertsuridej said retail gasoline prices thereafter would be determined by the market beginning next week. The government said it …
