Oct. 25--POMONA, Calif. -- Philadelphia Park is no more.

The south Pomona facility last week was renamed Nancy Lopez Park, after the longtime resident and community volunteer, following a unanimous vote by the City Council.

Lopez herself wasn't even aware of the name change until her sister shared the news with her midweek.

"I was so shocked when my sister came to tell me," Lopez said. "We started crying."

Lopez's sister, Vicky Alarcon, had submitted a request for a name change to the city's Parks and Recreation Commission, noting, among other accomplishments, that Lopez had chaired the more than …
