Wolfie joins VW
Former DaimlerChrysler exec Wolfgang Bernhard is back in the car business with Volkswagen, just six months after he was unceremoniously dumped as he was about to take over the reins of the Mercedes-Benz car group. Bernhard, who served as chief operating officer at Chrysler prior to his stillborn promotion to chief of Mercedes, joins VW's board of management next February and is expected to take over as head of the VW brand on Jan. 1, 2006.
Hot rod hopping
Hot rod expert Mark McPhail, a high-performance engineer for General Motors since the mid-1980s, is leaving GM to launch a street performance division for Michigan-based race-engine builder Katech Inc. At Katech, McPhail will oversee development of new high-performance engines and components for the enthusiast market.
