FLYING in the face of conventional thinking is the notion that warm climate grasses, not cool climate grasses, are best for Canberra's environment.Turf The Lot production manager Chris Cuddy said warm climate grasses had more efficient watering habits than cool climate grasses.
''In light of the introduction of stage three water restrictions by ACTEW, householders need to consider the drought-resistant properties of the lawns they are planting.'' According to Mr Cuddy, the two general groupings of grasses have distinct physiological differences, such as the way they use carbon dioxide and store carbohydrates like sugar and starch.
