The Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 Roadster switches personalities to suit the driver's mood so well that it mimics companionship. With SRT (Street and Racing Technology) director Dan Knott navigating, we left the top up as we pointed the car south from Monterey. The legendary California Highway 1's twists and turns along the shore begged us to explore the car's SRT enhancements, using the Autostick feature on the five-speed automatic to keep the 330-hp supercharged V6 on the boil. It will take you to 60 mph in about 5.0 seconds, so we were grateful that the big brakes can bring you to a full stop from 60 in 115 feet.
In the tight stuff, we also appreciated the car's compact dimensions and lithe responsiveness. Unlike the SRT-6 coupe, which we found stiff and jarring (AW, June 21), the roadster blends a smooth ride with crisp handling. Reasons? The soft-top chassis isn't as stiff, and SRT tuners used stiffer rear springs, softer front ones, and softer damping all around.
