Readers say Toyota has a winner on its hands with the new 2005 Tacoma, but that the truck suffers the company's trademark conservative styling.

People buy Toyota trucks for durability and reliability, and I am sure the new Tacoma will not disappoint. But I hoped Toyota would offer a turbodiesel, which would have made it the only diesel in the compact truck segment.

David Spreitzer, Corona Del Mar, Calif.

Tacoma looks like a winner. Dodge trucks' quality and reliability worry me, and the Chevy Colorado's five-cylinder engine is anemic. But where is Ford's replacement for my beloved 1999 Ranger?

Stephen Allen, West Danville, Vt.

The Tacoma is nice, but it's a new model in a larger class and deserves a new name. When it's time to trade in my 2003 Tacoma, I don't think anything in its class will exist anymore.

H. LaTulippe, Renton, Wash.
