Road warriors
The Indy Racing League's Infiniti Pro Series will feature 14 races in 2005, including three events on road courses and one street course. The Infiniti cars will be the first series to race twice in the same season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway: The Futaba Freedom 100 is scheduled for the 2.5-mile oval May 27, while the series will race on the road course during the U.S. Grand Prix weekend. The IPS will also contest the street-circuit event in St. Petersburg, Florida, on April 3; it will compete at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, on Aug. 28, and at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York, on Sept. 25.

Champ Car team owner Carl Haas confirms he would like to get driver Cristiano da Matta back in the series next year. Da Matta won the CART championship with Newman-Haas in 2002 before a two-year stint with the Toyota F1 team. Toyota released him from his contract two-thirds of the way through this season. Haas told Champ Car's website, "I don't think he has anything put together yet and I don't have anything put together yet for a third car. But we're exploring it. We definitely would have to find some additional sponsorship. It would be great if we could put it together, but I sure can't commit to it today.''
