Oct. 14--Health officials in Florida and the rest of the country say some suppliers are trying to cash in on the flu-shot shortage.
Fort Lauderdale-based ASAP Meds, which does business as Meds-Stat, is fending off charges that it sold vaccine for $900 a vial, a markup of more than 900 percent. A vial contains 10 doses.
"This is not price gouging, . . . though it certainly looks like that. I'd say it's more along the lines of exploitation," said state Attorney General Charlie Crist. He sued ASAP on Wednesday in Broward Circuit Court alleging it violated state laws against deceptive and unfair-trade practices.
