2005 Porsche 911 Carrera

RAYNAL: No day can be so bad that a drive in a 911 won't cure it. This new one is no exception. I would consider this a facelift, however, rather than an all-new car, no matter what Porsche says.
The interior is certainly an improvement, at least at first glance. Gone are the strange angles and shapes in favor of a more cohesive dash; the round instruments are familiar. It's only spoiled by the small, fussy buttons to control heat/vent, radio and the like-not that it detracts from the driving experience.
The flat-six makes wonderful noises and is so flexible and linear. The engine, brakes and transmission work in combination to give a near-perfect experience, at any speed it seems. The throws are a little shorter than the outgoing car's, and the shift action is nice, too. That the brakes are sublime goes without saying.
