The freezing of fuel prices on the domestic market since the year 2000 is producing an extremely high cost for the country and explains much of the fiscal deficit. The National General Treasury has stopped receiving at least 600m dollars but, what is even more serious, public funds are being allocated to subsidize the price of fuel for rich and poor, and for inhabitants of the border towns.
