Jan. 5--The Tourism Authority of Thailand will be made more pro-active, instead of functioning as a marketing unit, and work more closely with other state agencies to promote tourism.
The government has made tourism a key plank in reviving the economy, with Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra overseeing the industry.
The TAT would improve co-operation with the Interior Ministry on safety measures, and the Agriculture Ministry in developing tourist sites, Suranand Vejjajiva, the deputy secretary-general to the prime minister, said yesterday.
