Jan. 4--Thai share prices gained 2.25 percent in active trade yesterday, with foreign buyers targetting blue chips and local investors making speculative plays.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand's prime index closed at 312.05 points, up 6.86 points, in turnover worth 17.53 billion baht.
Leading gains were finance stocks (up 3.45 percent), banks (up 3.3 percent) and energy (up 2.03 percent).
Namchai Techaratanaviroj, a senior strategist at Phillip Securities, said that sentiment was very upbeat with foreign institutions turning their attention to big-cap stocks.
