Jan. 1--The fight for market supremacy between the country's largest recording firms, GMM Grammy Plc and RS Promotion 1992, took a new twist in the past year, with a dispute over the collection of copyright fees from karaoke operators.
The dispute flared up in November when recording houses decided to enforce a law that allows them to collect the fees. However, they disagreed on the collection method.
Grammy chose to collect its fee by itself, refusing to allow any central agency to handle the task, one of the options stated in the law.
